Indigenous Cultural Heritage:
Protection, Practice, Repatriation

Explore strategies and challenges in protecting the cultural heritage rights enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Using an innovative array of lectures by Stanford faculty and interviews with Indigenous Elders, artists, performers, students, scholars, and museum professionals, we consider:
- Who is Indigenous? What is cultural heritage?
- The impact of colonialism, urbanization and other forces on indigenous identity and cultural heritage
- Tribal, domestic and international legal and ethical frameworks for heritage protection and repatriation
- How museums approach Indigenous peoples and their cultural material
- How to resolve repatriation disputes
